I was very shy gowing up and in High School which kept me a virgin. It was later that I learned the benefits of being sexually abstinent. I stayed abstinent until I was married in 1990. I was married for 6 years until my unfortunate divorce. It wasn't always easy to stay abstinent but my belief in how right and safer it was helped. It's the best one I have seen, not to mention that it doesn't make abstinence seem like a) a joke, or b) something that only pastor's children are involved in. I need this. Abstinence is a diffuclt thing to come by, espically with the media's nonchalance towards committment. And you have to do it for yourself. For anyone else, will (most of the time) result in breaking that promise to yourself. I actually see a potential positive turning point for the nation down the road. If one word were to describe the nation-in every aspect, it would be "outraegous." Everything from clothing to politics to moral ruthlessness is outraegous. I think that at a certain point, people aren't going to want to see that anymore. It will get old. Things cannot be new forever. And simplicity will set in. Things will be simpler. I mean, obviously, things will never get cut-and-dry-simple, but everyday complexities will be lessened. I hope and pray that it will reflect on sexuality. If a bunch of us wouldn't so meekly sit back and disagree with the 90's version of the sexual revolution, something could be done. Young people are very impressionable. I know, I am one. Planned Parenthood is getting in there and corrupting ideaologies for youth, that now know they can get contraceptives, abortions, and medical checkups without anyone being notified. We need to take a stand. We can change this.

My mom was not married when she was pregnant with me and my brother(we are twins). She has never been married. She never has gotten married. She is in a pretty serious relationship right now, and I remind her everyday not to have sex, telling her to look at what happened before when she did. I know she has had sex with one other person besides my father. She knows I think it is wrong, and she tells me that it is good that i know it is wrong. I don't think she will have sex with the man she is with now until after marraige. But I just wished that everyone could understand how much it can hurt if you get pregnant or get someone else pregnant. You may think because it is protected sex that it is ok, but it isn't if you only knew how many people get pregnant from having "protected" sex. So much for that concept. I just wish I knew why they teach protected sex in school instead of formication.

These days it seems that engaging in sex is a rite of passage of sorts, something almost mandatory to prove something or other, whether you're a young man or a young woman. I tip my hat to the young gentlemen and young ladies here, and to the webmaster. I am a progressive feminist Buddhist. Although my religious background differs from most of you, it's nice to find support for abstaining. It's cool to see a place where abstinence isn't viewed as an indication of having some sort of problem or issue, unhealthiness or immaturity, not with the times or dweebish. I cannot say that I am extraordinarily strong or "pure" or virtuous. I've just been pretty darn lucky to have been shielded by forces in the universe, though I didn't know how much during those times. Call it being wrapped up, shutting off friendly vibes (even running or hiding) when my instinct tells me I am not comfortable, or just somehow managing not to encounter vicarious situations & persons for long if at all. I've experienced the platonic aspects of romance and ouches; the playful smirks & jests & fawned respect for not being "ready" and my "innocence;" and the wondering if there was something wrong in my decision, if I was indeed "missing out" on all the fun while I was being overly cautious, "chicken," and too idealistic. But I'm here to tell the young ladies that it pays to treasure yourself. I've read books and seen a lot of people. I figure you can have fun in that way in a good, solid marriage. Here's the interesting fact. I'm a virgin with more than several proposals. *wink* While my roommate who's been sleeping w/ her boyfriend for a few years is left anxious about a "future," when the "commitment" will come. As if these were not enough to make her moody, she's irritable and sick 3/4 of the time because of worrying about late periods and the side effects of the birth control pill--and it's her 3rd type of pill, supposedly better than the others, gawd forbid what the worse ones were like. And oh do they fight when they fight. She wants to be engaged. (not related with the fight) He starts finding her clingy. Neighbor: Woman in her 50s. Sexually active since teens. Consider contraceptives and divine intervention successful at ">>only<<" two abortions, lowered fertility rate, a few abusive relationships the result of which she wears false teeth, and a midlife crisis of wanting to be married w/ current beau in his 30's and have kids. Sadly boyfriend has been w/ her for over 5 years, good relationship etc. but in no uncertain terms did he tell her that he did not want to marry her. "life long mate & everthing but no marriage." Personally I wince at the thought of the nausea my friend gets all day when she takes the pill, (me who likes being healthy & dislikes headaches) the pain of either labor or abortion (me who winces at the thought of the anesthetic shot at the dentist)...and the realization that you could actually lose a Gentleman and become a magnet for creeps... Being a virgin gives you some freedom...in dress and behavior. You don't have to go to tremendous amount of stress worrying about being perceived as this or that because you genuinely are okay with yourself. Earlier in my teen years, I mainly abstained not only for my morals but mostly through the fear of getting some kind of sexually transmitted disease or worse..pregnant. Dating guys... were sometimes very difficult trying to explain to them the meaning behind the answer "NO". Now that I live a Christian life, I am SO thankful! Thankful that I have trusted my instincts and held on to my virginity. Believe me, being in the dating world isn't an easy task even in the Christian Dating world. Three years ago, as a gift to myself on my 32nd birthday, I bought myself the "Willing to Wait" ring. It has been a reminder of my continued Faith that God has someone special out there for me, and for me to wait. Another neat thing about it, is that it has allowed me to be open and frank with the guys that I have dated, showing them the ring and explaining it's meaning. I totally agree with the Courtship dating. Get with a bunch of friends. Don't date anyone that you wouldn't want to be your friend first. I am living life now in a serious relationship with a very Godly man, who started out being a friend nearly three years ago. Because he was a good friend who was "one of the group" I had a chance to really get to know him. The first "official date" wasn't the typical First date with all of those "First date gitters". There I sat at the dinner table, talking with my good friend. Both of us are TOTALLY in LOVE with each other... and because we are staying in with the rest of the group, everyone has given us their blessing to continue the relationship. (Christian friends are SO Important when it comes to dating.) The Love of my Life... is also a virgin and is also in his 30's. God is SO Faithful! I now am looking forward to a future with my future husband. And both of us are excited that each has held on to our virginity. We will be sharing "THE Gift" that only a virgin can give their spouse on their wedding night. If there was anything that I can say to those single people out there in the dating world, would be definitely date a friend, travel in groups, and put things out in plain sight (magazines, books, etc. explaining your beliefs on Abstinence. It makes it a lot easier to explain to your date and speaks volumes even in situations when I couldn't explain it.
