“WIN A REMIX” SONG CONTEST F.A.Q.

1. WHAT IS A REMIX? A remix is when a song that has already been recorded in the studio is completely reinvented, except for the actual vocal recording and possibly some instrumental elements of the original version. The solo vocal track is taken and the instrumental music bed under the vocal is rebuilt using a more synth and electronic based approach, often with reharmonization and structural editing of the song.

2. WHY WOULD I WANT A REMIX? See the “10 Things to do with a Remix” list above. It could be an extremely useful tool for marketing an artist and possibly generating extra income.

3. WHAT MAKES A SONG “WORKABLE” FOR A REMIX? TEMPO is key. Avoid sending in a song that is in the 80 to 95 beats per minute range. It either needs to be slow enough to go double time with the beat, or fast enough to work the tempo into a remix range. A ballad can often make a great remix unless there are several tempo changes etc. The LYRIC should be of a topic nature which would seem appropriate in this musical setting. Also, we need a good sounding vocal performance and recording, singing on pitch is essential.

4. CAN I SUBMIT A RECORDING THAT IS JUST PIANO OR GUITAR AND VOCAL? Absolutely, as long as there is a good vocal performance and recording, and we can get a sense of the original version of the song, that’s all that matters. Of course, a fully produced track is just fine too.

5. WHY CAN’T I SUBMIT MY SONG ONLINE THROUGH WINAREMIX.COM? We are under contract with Sonicbids.com to only accept online submissions through them. If you would like to join Sonicbids.com and enter this contest through them, they will give you a special rate to join.

6. IF I WIN, WILL I HAVE A SAY IN WHAT THE REMIX SOUNDS LIKE? Absolutely. Worldwide Groove Corporation will talk to you about their ideas for your song and you can help decide which direction it should go. They will treat you like a regular client.

7. WHAT MUSICAL STYLES ARE YOU ACCEPTING? Pretty much any musical style could be turned into a dance remix since it’s only the vocal track that will be used, most likely. Children’s songs may not be the best. It’s more about having a lyric which would seem appropriate and a vocal track that would sound professional [in tune etc.] in a remix setting. Just remember to pay attention to the tempo restrictions.

(Entrance fee is nonrefundable. “Win A Remix” Song Contest is not responsible for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, postage due, stolen, or misappropriated entries.)

Upon receipt of this file, WGC will produce remixed track in a timely manner excepting other large projects on WGC’s roster. WGC will work in cooperation with winner to ensure that the winner is pleased with final product.

3. Winner assumes all ownership of remix. Winner may sell, distribute, or give away remixed track in any way they choose. Winner will always give Worldwide Groove Corporation proper production credit where appropriate.

4. Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters who have earned less than $5,000 in song royalties in 2005. Employees of Worldwide Groove Corporation, and their immediate families are not eligible.

5. Vocal performance does not necessarily need to be that of the actual songwriter, but remix will be done with the vocal performance of the submitted track.

6. Winner will be notified by mail, phone, email or through Sonicbids, and must sign and return an affidavit of eligibility/recording rights/publicity release within 14 days of notification date. The affidavit will state that winner's song is original work and the winner holds all rights to song. Affidavits of winners under 18 years of age at time of award must be countersigned by parent or legal guardian. Affidavits subject to verification by Worldwide Groove Corporation and its agents. Entry constitutes permission to digitally distribute songs, and to use winner’s names, likenesses, and voices for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation.

7. All songs submitted will be judged based on whether the producers believe it would successfully translate into a remix genre. Factors considered will be lyric, tempo, melody and vocal performance and recording quality. All songs deemed “workable” will be then entered into a lottery and winner will be selected at random from among this group.

8.
