Pop
Music Production. Artist Development. String Arranging.
[Don't
just sit there... click something.]
Worldwide Groove Corporation are Kurt Goebel and Ellen Tift, a music production team specializing in programmed pop music, artist development, and string arranging. They've done work for major record labels as well as for several other creative production companies. WGC's music has been nationally awarded, featured on radio and television, presented at international arts festivals, and sold on 4 continents. They have relationships with established companies in L.A., New York, Chicago, Miami, and Nashville. For a more comprehensive list of the scope of WGC's talents, see the FAQTS page. For more information on the specific projects WGC have done, see the NEWS items. And to hear snippets of WGC's music, go to the MUSIC section of the site.
Kurt "Wizz" Goebel is arguably one of Nashville's best pop producers.
His long history of playing in rock bands and his wizardry with the gear make
him an exceptional music programmer. But his talents don't end there, he is
also a highly educated and refined musician.
Kurt began his musical studies at the age of 6, and played piano all the way
through college, earning his Bachelor of Music degree in piano pedagogy from
the University of Illinois. From there he enrolled at the University of Miami
in Florida to get his Master of Music degree in the Media Writing and Production
program.
It wasn't long before Williams/Bally/Midway, a game company in Chicago, snatched
Kurt up as a full time composer for pinball and video games. During this season,
Kurt refined his programming skills, and composed music in a broad range of
genres. His work can be heard on various projects like the pinball game Junkyard
and the CD-ROM game You Dont Know Jack.
Kurt eventually grew restless and headed to Nashville to pursue live performance
gigs. He has played keyboards and piano for a number of artists such as Third
Day, Kristy Starling, Rita Springer, Lincoln Brewster, Paul Baloche, Ten Sheckel
Shirt, and Jamie Smith. But despite his rock star chops on keys, it is Kurts
exquisite programming and production skills which have kept gaining momentum
in his music career and make him such a tremendous asset to Worldwide Groove
Corporation.
Pop artists and record labels who have enlisted WGC in producing their music
or composing string arrangements are the ones who enjoy the heart of Kurts
talents. He has co-written and produced many songs and indie artist CDs,
along with edgy and current sounding projects for LifeWay Corporation and Integrity
Records. Kurts rich musical background is evident in the versatility of
his work. His string arrangements have enhanced many commercially released projects
for artists like Plumb and Todd Smith on Curb Records, and his moving postscores
have been sought after by organizations such as eHarmony and Compassion International.
Kurts work in Worldwide Groove Corporation makes use of all of his many
talents, and when partnered with Ellen Tift, the sum is definitely greater than
the parts.
If you were to listen to one of Ellen Tift's big band swing arrangements,
you would never guess that she lives in Nashville. Ellen is such a natural at
swing arranging and composing that she was nationally recognized for her talents
in the 8th Billboard Song contest jazz category, where her original song "Anyway"
captured 3rd place. She is equally polished at composing string arrangements,
most recently evident on Todd Smiths radio single I Turn to You,
released in August 2004 [Curb Records].
Armed with a graduate degree in music production and composition, Ellen is a
formidable talent. She attended Belmont University's School of Music where she
graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree as a commercial voice principle.
Then she headed south to the University of Miami and earned a Master of Music
degree in their exclusive Media Writing and Production program.
Ellen's intelligence and creativity are what make her an essential part of Worldwide
Groove Corporation. She is the visionary and driving force behind WGCs
independent projects and increasing visibility in the music industry. She is
currently consumed with establishing WGCs independent label, Fabulation
Records as a lucrative subsidiary. She is also enmeshed in producing volume
one in her latest concept, the Chillodesiac Lounge series.
Prior to forming WGC, Ellen enjoyed a variety of gigs in the music industry
including songwriting, postscoring, live performing, and studio vocal work.
She composed for various music houses in Nashville, and has written and performed
on radio and TV jingles that are airing across the country. Her clever lyrics
are one of her most valuable assets in both her jingle and songwriting. Ellen
made her TV debut in February of 2004 as a professional songwriter for the pilot
of CMTs show Score.
Since 1996, Ellen has been on adjunct faculty, teaching classes and private
lessons for Belmont University's School of Music. She has taught everything
from commercial vocal seminars to advanced contemporary instrumental arranging.
This works in her favor, as her years of teaching commercial voice lessons have
endowed her with great skill as a vocal producer in the recording studio. But,
despite Ellen's love for teaching, it is her work for WGC which brings out her
best talents. Worldwide Groove Corporation are able to create music in several
genres, writing for any instrumental combination. They truly are one of the
industry's most versatile production teams.
WHAT KIND OF TRAINING
& EXPERIENCE DO WGC HAVE?
Both members of WGC earned their Master of Music degree from the University
of Miami, concentrating in the areas of music production, composition, and arranging.
They have a combined total of 19 years work experience in the music industry
ranging from writing, to producing, to performing, to studio work for major
record labels, independent artists, and video production companies. Ellen has
taught commercial voice classes and lessons since 1993, so in addition to production
of instrumental elements, she has an innate sense for vocal production as well.
HOW DO WGC DO ARTIST
DEVELOPMENT?
WGC approach artist development with the attitude of finding what is unique
and captivating about a singer and making the most of it. They spend time with
the artist, learning what their musical tastes, vocal ability and sound, and
visual impact are, and then creating a recording project which highlights their
strengths within the appropriate genre. Strong songs are vital, therefore if
the artist's songwriting skills are not yet ready to be featured on the artist
demo, WGC will look for songs from publishing companies or write with the artist.
The budget for artist development projects varies according to the type of production
necessary and the number of songs. WGC will accept artist promo packets for
review at the address on the contact page.
WHAT KIND OF INSTRUMENTAL
ARRANGING CAN WGC DO?
WGC are great at string arranging. However, they are also extensively trained
in big band swing arranging, orchestrating, and commercial vocal arranging.
WHAT ARE WGC'S STRENGTHS
IN MUSIC PRODUCTION?
WGC really shine in the area of programmed pop music, remixes, and vocal production.
Kurt Goebel is a premier pop programmer, and Ellen Tift has teaching voice since
1993, which when combined with her studio production experience makes her one
talented vocal producer and editor. Between the two of them, they are able to
evoke great performances out of their artists while giving them inspiring musical
tracks. When it comes to remixes, WGC thrive in the ambient mix sound, utilizing
approaches that are a bit left of center and very vibey.
DO WGC DO ALL PROGRAMMED
MUSIC?
WGC do whatever is appropriate for the gig. They frequently incorporate real
guitar, and often use real bass or drums, or even horns and live strings on
projects as needed. They never settle into a routine, and evolve their sound
with each new project.
DO WGC EVER DO POSTSCORES?
WGC have a background in filmscoring and postscoring, so they are very comfortable
composing and producing post scores. Their postscores can be heard on various
television commercials as well as videos for Compassion International and eHarmony.com.
WHAT MUSICAL GENRES DO
WGC PRODUCE?
WGC do most of their work in the POP music genre, but they have composed and
produced music in the following genres as well:
Big band
Blues
Chillout
Contemporary jazz
Club
Dance
Downtempo
Electronica
Funk
Gospel
Latin pop
New age
Orchestral
Quirky
R&B
Rock
Swing
Snippets of these other genres can be heard upon request.
WHAT ARE WGC BAD AT?
Kurt Goebel is not so good at break dancing on account of his stiff groin, and
Ellen Tift is the last person you want as your tennis partner.

to appeal to the "tween" market. Artists such as Hillary Duff, Jump
5, and Paul Okenfold served as the inspiration for the production style. Kurt
"Wizz" Goebel proved his versatility and lived up to his name, as
he worked long hours to program and produce 12 songs start to finish in 9 weeks.
Ellen Tift served as a vital part of the machine as vocal producer and all around
slave driver. The record features the voices of many talented singers like Missy
Hale, Terry White, and Michelle Swift.
01:2004 - Worldwide Groove TV debut! On Feb. 9th at 7:30 PM EST, 6:30 CST, the
face of CMT will forever be changed... OK, maybe not forever changed, but hopefully
brightened for 30 minutes, as Ellen Tift will appear on the premier episode
of the reality show "Score". The premise of the show puts two songwriting
teams [one inexperienced and one pro writer on each team] head to head writing
a song in 4 hours after being given 5 words they must use in the lyric. As is
likely the case with many "reality" television shows, the drama behind
the scenes was far more extreme than anything on camera. Be sure to tune in
for the premier or one of the reruns to follow.
11:2003 - Groove with Compassion... Worldwide Groove Corporation recently composed
and produced an original post score for a video that Compassion International
is producing. This video is for broadcast at Michael W. Smith concerts to promote

Live" Venue on Miami's South Beach the second day. Air date is still undetermined.
05:2003 - A blonde and a brunette walk into the groove... Kurt "Wizz"
Goebel has recently been working with talented brunette singer/songwriter Cindy
Morgan, producing tracks which will be pitched to Avalon. He is also producing
down tempo tracks [a la "Everything but the Girl", "Sade",
and "Groove Armada"] for blonde Chicagoan artist Kelley Stoddard.
03:2003 - CMT - got groove? Worldwide Groove Corporation's own Ellen Tift has
recently been cast as a songwriter in a reality TV pilot for CMT [Country Music
Television]. The show's working title is "Score" where 2 songwriting
teams must write a song in a day, and put on a showcase where one winning song
will be chosen. The pilot will be filmed in Miami this June, where Ellen will
be one of the professional songwriters, teamed up with an inexperienced songwriter.
We will post if and when this pilot becomes a series and will air on CMT.

being it's edgiest musical yet, including remakes of songs by The Beatles, The
Calling, and Yes.

LifeWay Corporation.
04:2002 - A Show About Nothing- Singer/songwriter Jeff Slaughter just completed
his 3rd solo project, "Nothing". WGC co-produced the 9 song pop record
with Jeff Slaughter, and Worldwide Groove's own Kurt "Wizz" Goebel
programmed all of the kick-@$$ tracks.
03:2002 - The Wizz "Lands" in L.A. - Kurt "Wizz" Goebel
has gone to L.A. this month to program a track for Canadian born artist Wendy
Lands. Wendy has a new release this year, the soundtrack to a movie, with a
name you'll just have to see to believe.
01:2002 - Plumb Strings- Curb recording artist "Plumb" has hired Worldwide
Groove Corporation to compose string arrangements for her next solo project,

Goebel rocked the Gorge in George with another occurance of the Creation Festival.
He performed with the same Christian rock artists as he did at the Creation
Fest in Pennsylvania.
07:2001 - Is Dr. Laura one of "God's Top Ten"? Ellen Tift recently
arranged vocals for all of the songs on the "God's Top Ten" project
featuring Dr. Laura Schlessinger [don't worry, she didn't sing]. This children's
video is being produced by MaxDaddy Productions, and features the voices of
Travis Cottrell, Sally Snyder, Tammy Jensen, and Marabeth Jordan.
06:2001 - Rock and Roll Creation... Kurt "Wizz" Goebel had the chance
to rock out before the masses at the Creation Festival in Pennsylvania this
month. He played for Christian artists Rita Springer, Lincoln Brewster, Paul
Baloche, Ten Sheckel Shirt, and Jamie Smith. He also shared the stage with acts
such as Jaci Velasques, Toby Mac of DC Talk, Skillet, and Third Day.
11:2000 - Weh-ell we're movin' on up... Moving on to bigger and better facilities,
Rock of Life Music has dismantled their gear and hauled it across town to Peachtree
St. This relocation is just in time to record their upcoming Christmas album
in their new space.

the completion of the pop/rock youth musical "Where Jesus Is" for
Lifeway Corporation. All tracks were programmed by Kurt "Wizz" Goebel,
and Ellen Tift lent her talents as vocalist and vocal contractor. Rock of Life
was pleased to work with such talents as Brandon Fraley and Dave Gallagher in
the process.
06:2000 - Alien voicings... Ellen Tift hopped over to the West Coast to attend
an intensive orchestration workshop led by famed orchestrator and suspected
scientologist Scott Smalley. Smalley who has worked with filmscore composers
such as Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Danny Elfman, and Alan Silvestri not
only taught Ellen the best way to voice orchestral strings, he also enriched
the class with a history of how aliens mated with cows and became our forefathers
of horn arranging.
05:2000 - A chord of three strands... Nichole Nordeman showed her face around
the "Rock of Life" studio as Kurt Goebel produced the newest record
for Christian artist Jeff Slaughter. Nichole lent her talents on a duet with
Jeff and when combined with the haunting track that Kurt produced, the result
was sensational.
02:2000 - Let the synergy flow... Ellen Tift and Kurt Goebel began combining
creative force as "Rock of Life Music" permeated the TV commercial
domain. In their first year of working in this realm, they composed and produced
over 30 jingles which aired. Genres ranged from rock to country to smooth jazz.
01:1997 - Sense and centsability... Kurt "Wizz" Goebel was put on
salary by iSurf, Inc. as the composer for a CD-ROM game in the works of the
same genre as Myst and Riven. The game will feature several tracks of original
instrumental compositions as a soundtrack in addition to the game music itself.
03:1992 - She's a little bit country, sort of... Ellen Tift had a rare brush
with greatness as she was hired to sing back ground vocals for famed singer
Marie Osmond at an awards ceremony held in the Grand Old Opry. This event brought
full circle a relationship that began with the purchase of a Donny and Marie
lunchbox in 1977.
10:1984 - Stop the presses!... Joliet, IL was never the same after Kurt "Wizz"
Goebel fulfilled his destiny by acquiring his own Korg Poly 800 synth. Legend
has it that when the winds are still and the moon is bright, the Miami Vice
themesong can still be heard echoing through the treetops.
06:1984 - Juno how to play that thing?...In a fit of random generosity, Ellen
Tift's father splurged on the hottest new keyboard in Zeeland, MI, the Juno
106. Thus began Ellen's emergence as the local "Amy Grant" and a budding
gear diva.
09:1977 - A star is born... In the small town of Zeeland, Michigan, Ellen Tift
takes advantage of a snow day and composes her first instrumental piano piece
known as "untitled". Soon her work of genius is shared with the other
students of Lincoln Elementary school in a talent show. No prizes were awared,
but all knew who the real winner was... the little girl who twirled her batton
to patriotic music. But Ellen was still good nonetheless.
09:1976 - Finger finger thumb thumb... After 2 years of begging for piano lessons,
little Kurt Goebel aka: Wizz finally begins his journey on the road to greatness.
He performs his first living room concert not long after, shushing those who
dare to speak during his masterpiece.
09:1969 - Let's get it on... Somewhere in the heart of Joliet, IL, a speedy
sperm bearing a Y chromosome won first place in a race to the awaiting newly
released egg resulting in the conception of a piano playing embryo, destined
to be known as "Wizz".
